A gentle guide to what needs to happen, and what can wait
There is no rush
If your parent has just died, take a moment. Sit with them if you wish. There is no immediate urgency. The checklist below can wait. Grief comes first.
Ask a trusted friend or family member to make phone calls, be with you, or handle tasks. Accept help. This is one of the hardest days of your life.
This can happen over days and weeks
There is no "right" way to grieve. You may feel numb, relieved, devastated, or all of these at once. The paperwork and tasks can feel overwhelming, do what you can, ask for help, and let the rest wait. Nothing is so urgent that it can't wait for you to rest.
Most of these tasks don't need to happen immediately. This guide is meant to help you know what's ahead, not to add pressure. Take care of yourself first. The rest will get done.
